May, 2006 -  "I checked back in at a retail store, based on the feedback from our in-house testers working on the launch of our, then current, software release which was being hand-tuned for the newest generation of Web browsers (that were designed specifically for the recently announced SmartPhones.)  The handsets that hit the market in the Spring of '06 were destined to go down in history as creating a true renaissance for mobile productivity — and their launch signaled an official starting point for the marketing of our RealTime-Manager subscription-based software. To internalize the market euphoria, I had to spend some time down at the Verizon store in Corte Madera (Bay Area - just north of the Golden Gate). The only complaint is that it took me an hour and a half to wait in line to talk to a Verizon Sales Representative — the line was backed up all the way out the door and down the promenade with people upgrading to the Motorola Q (Windows Mobile 5.0), the Palm Treo 700P (Palm OS w/Blazer Web Browser) and the Palm Treo 700W (Windows Mobile 5.0).

Since I already had more cell phone contracts than I could count, I upgraded my workhorse Samsung A650 (which was just ending a 2 year stint) to a contract renewal on the Motorola Q.  I was so jazzed about playing with this little jewel that I stayed up all night just testing all of our Web properties myself — using the Motorola Q over the Verizon (EvDO broadband) Network.  While I didn't stop carrying my lightweight 14" laptop in the car, I probably haven't had to bust-it-out more than 1 in 10 times when I have needed to use the Internet. For data input of any quantity, you are still going to want a decent-sized keyboard, but for accessing the dynamic information of your subscription to the RealTime-Manager tool set,  looking up marketing or consulting information on RealTime-Manager's Collaborate, or just plain Googling data, maps & people, the new generation of  320 X 240 "crisp" screen on the Q, is not only adequate - it's superb - even for all of us gray foxes with less than perfect vision!  

While the two Palm Treo SmartPhones give you just a bit more vertical height on the screen real estate at 320 X 320 resolution, there is a tradeoff. Once you get used to the Blackberry-esq thumb-wheel on the Motorola Q, the ease of use more than compensates for the extra scrolling on the shorter screen.  More recently, options have expanded to the Samsung BlackJack, the Blackberry Pearl, and a host of additional handsets sporting the Windows Mobile 5.0 Operating System will be hitting store shelves in 2007.
